A useful addition to perimeter security can be exterior lighting, either switched manually or automatically operated. A correctly sited Security light can be a very useful instrument in not only protecting your property against unwanted trespassers, but also a useful and practical fitting for other reasons. Not only does it prevent somebody from creeping about unnoticed in what may be a secluded area or reassure you that there is nobody there when you hear strange noises, but it can also help you on that late night trip to the dustbin or aid you walking up the garden path. It is also very useful to have an override facility that allows you to switch the light on permanently, should you wish to sit out on summer evenings.

The most common form of lighting is passive infra-red which is activated when someone comes into its field of vision. The light can be set to stay on for a set time and then it will re-set if the cause of its activation is no longer present. For a more complex system we would always recommend GJD control equipment which over the years has consistently proved to be very reliable. This system would include several stand alone flood lights and stand alone external PIR's surrounding the parameter of your premises with a controller inside your home or business. The controller can be set to automatic detection, timed, or manually set. The controller can also be set to chime whenever the PIR's are activated.

External security lighting should not be seen as a major deterrent to intruders as it does have its limitations - i.e. burglaries often take place during daylight hours and at night if the light is activated, someone has to notice it; and take action. External lighting should be seen as an aid, but on its own it is not sufficient to deter a burglar.
